When Mike Brey announced he would step down at the end of the season, it went largely unnoticed.
What Brey has done for the Notre Dame men’s basketball program shouldn’t be carelessly dismissed.
This is Brey’s 23rd season in South Bend and though it has been a tough season (Notre Dame is currently 10-19) it shouldn’t color the perception of Brey’s time there.
Brey has 428 wins at Notre Dame and has made the tournament 13 times. Assuming the Irish miss the tournament this season, that would make the fifth time in the last six seasons that Notre Dame would be left out of the NCAA tournament.
