It’s been reported in several outlets that multiple Washington Commanders potential ownership groups reached out to Sean Payton.
To those groups who chose to do this I would say “smart”.
It didn’t work out because Payton decided to sign with the Denver Broncos but pinging Payton was the right thing to do.
If/When Daniel Snyder sells the Washington Commanders, this first and, most important, task for the new ownership group is the win back the trust of a fan base that has been alienated for most of Snyder’s tenure.
A good start would be putting together a competent front office along with a proven winner at the head coaching position.
I’m usually in favor of giving assistants a chance over recycled coaches but Washington doesn’t have a choice but to swing for the fences.
By going after Payton, potential ownership groups sent a message to fans that they have something to get excited about.
Excitement is something this organization hasn’t had in a generation.
