Last week, Notre Dame lost Tommy Rees to Alabama but that isn’t the only upcoming change in the staff.
With Marcus Freeman hot after, Utah’s Andy Ludwig, offensive line coach, Harry Hiestand announced that he plans to retire.
“I have made the decision to retire,” Hiestand said. “It is important to me to spend time with my family, as I have two kids competing in college athletics, one for his last season, and I have decided it is time for me to be a part of that. I am thankful for the opportunity Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick and especially Coach Freeman gave me to return for a seventh season coaching the offensive line at Notre Dame.
Hiestand helped changed Notre Dame’s season around by getting the offensive line to be one of the Fighting Irish’s strengths after a slow start to the regular season.
Ludwig had two stints at Utah with the first being during the best season in Utes history. In 2008, Utah capped off an undefeated season with a Sugar Bowl win over Alabama.
The Fighting Irish’s next offensive coordinator’s biggest decision will be who to start at quarterback, Tyler Buchner or Sam Hartman.
