Boxing: Does Andrade do enough?

Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade’s (32-0) made his debut at 168.

In his return to the ring, he did what Boo Boo does.

Win.

Question is… was it enough?

In his unanimous decision win over Demond Nicholson (26-4-1), All three scorecards had Boo Boo winning 100-88. The score includes Andrade’s 10-8 second round and 12th round, when he sent Nicholson to the canvas.

The only hiccup was where it looked like Nicholson scored a knockdown but it was ruled a slip.

But just like all Andrade fights, the victory left fans wanting more. Fans want Andrade to win by physical domination not boxing domination. IE… they want a knockout.

That’s not the type of fight Andrade is and in another time he would be celebrated for being a smart boxer.

Unfortunately, we live in the era of an uneducated public when it comes to the sweet science. Fans are looking for clips and highlights and what’s better than seeing a boxer get stretched out?

As confrontational as boxing is, the sport itself isn’t built on knocking out your opponent. It was called the “sweet science” for a reason.

Breaking down your opponent over 10 or 12 rounds should be as celebrated as a fourth round knockout but, unfortunately, it isn’t.

So once again Andrade walked out of the ring with a victory but without his flowers.
