What’s the role of sports media these days?
For all the complaining about non-traditional outlets given equal access as accredited media outlets that’s not the biggest change in how sports are covered.
Teams now expect blogs, online publications, and traditional media to be propaganda machines for the owner and front office.
How do they control the narrative? The threaten access.
The latest example of this can be found in a tweet by Washington Commander’s President Jason Wright.
Thankfully, Carson demonstrated grace & class in response to this pompous, unprofessional mess. I recognize you have made a living on childlike provocation but it needs to be called out. Don’t expect special access and good luck building rapport with the guys @Scott7news . https://t.co/fegxgvcJmr

It’s all there in writing. Ask fair, tough questions and you’ll have your “special access” cut off. Players will be able to shun you and the organization will turn a blind eye to it.
The expectation that media is there to carry out agendas by leadership is a pariah in today’s news cycle…. sports and otherwise.
