Washington Commanders’ head coach, Ron Rivera, announced that Sam Mills III has been fired.
Rivera described the move as a “difference of philosophy”.
Mills III had worked with Rivera since 2011 and was promoted to defensive line coach in 2018.
Jeff Zgonina was named Mills III replacement.
“Jeff played the game, so he has a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge that he does share with the players,” Rivera said. “He’s got tremendous enthusiasm, so he’ll continue to be that guy for them.”
