Madison Square Garden proved to be the perfect venue for Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
The capacity crowd was loud and engaged all night in Taylor’s split decision victory.
The official scorecards: 97-93 Taylor, 96-94 Serrano, 96-93 Taylor. Making the Cut scored the fight 95-95.
Taylor came out fast throwing punches almost exclusively to the head of Serrano.
Serrano responded by landing heavy handed punches that would lead her to dominate the middle rounds. But, it looked like Serrano started to run out of gas in the late rounds.
Taylor was winning the rounds largely on being the more active of the two fighters.
Both fighters are open to a rematch with talk being that the second fight could take place in Ireland.
