Boxing: Nakathila steals the show; Tszyu continues to roll

Saturday night was supposed to be about the return of Miguel Berchelt but Jeremiah Nakathila had other plans.

Nakathila (23-2, 19 KOs) dominated most of the fight knocking down Berchelt down in the third round. The fight was stopped after the sixth.

“From the first round, my corner told me to take my time,” said Nakathila. “I know what I have. I knew it would be difficult for him to reach the 10th round. It wasn’t so easy, but I made it look easy.”

Berchelt (38-3, 34 KOs) was coming in off a loss to Oscar Valdez. He seemed to have a hangover from the knockout loss. Outside of the fifth round, he didn’t look like his old self.

“The great champions are those who rise, and I will go home, spend time with my family, visit with them, get some rest, and I am going to come back stronger than ever.”

Tszyu wins by unanimous decision in US debut

Tim Tszyu survived being knocked down in the first round for win over Terrell Gausha in his US debut. The judges scored the fight 114-113, 116-111, 115-112.

Tszyu found himself on the canvas when Gausha landed a clean right hand. After that, Tszyu spent the rest of the fight pressuring Gausha frequently pinning him up against the ropes.
