The Terps fell to 0-4 in the Big Ten, 8-7 overall, with a 70-69 loss to 23rd ranked Wisconsin.
Maryland couldn’t have gotten off to a worst start. The Badgers were getting anything they wanted on the Terps defense with star, Johnny Davis scoring seven early points.
With 8:29 left in the half, Wisconsin was up 29-8 and the Xfinity Center couldn’t be quieter.
But the Terps started to string together some stops as they went on a 15-0 run. A run that featured a Donta Scott four-point play and an offensive spark by Hakim Hart. Scott would finish the half with eight points while Hart had seven.
After a slow start, the Terps were down 33-26 at the half.
The Terps started the second half on a 10-2 cutting the Badgers lead to one with 15:10 left on the strength of back-to-back threes by Eric Ayala.
Later another three-pointer by Ayala tied the game at 39 and later he would give the Terps a 42-41 lead on the free throw line.
A 6-0 Wisconsin run gave the Badgers a three-point but Maryland responded with a 5-0 run to take back the lead at 55-53.
Later in the half, a 9-2 run pushed Wisconsin to a 62-57 lead.
Davison made both ends of a one-and-one with 29.7 seconds left pushing the Badgers lead to 66-62. Fatts Russell would make two free throws drawing Maryland back to within two points.
Davis hit both ends of a one-and-one with 20.8 seconds left to push the lead back to 68-64. Russell would draw Maryland back to within two with a driving layup.
Davison’s two free throws put Wisconsin back up 70-66 but it wasn’t over. Ayala hit a three pointer cutting the lead to 70-69 with 3.9 seconds left.
Wisconsin’s Davison would miss both free throws but Maryland could only manage to get off a half court shot.
