George Washington-Dayton Wrap Up

George Washington opened their Atlantic 10 season with a 83-58 loss to Dayton.

The Flyers got strong performances from Toumani Camara (14 points) and freshman Malachi Smith (13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists).

George Washington was led by Joe Bamisile (25 points) and freshman Brayon Freeman (17 points, 5 assists).

The Colonials were down as much as 27 in the second half as they struggled on both ends all day.

This was George Washington’s first game since December 13th. The Colonials had four games cancelled due to Covid.

The Flyers jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half with a 14-0 run as George Washington went scoreless for 6:41. Dayton would lead by as much as 17 in the first 20 minutes.

The Colonials committed 10 turnovers in the first half against Dayton’s pressure defense. They were also out-rebounded in the first 20 minutes, 22-12.

Smith finished the half with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The bright spots for the Colonials in the half were Bamisile and freshman Freeman.

Bamisile finished the half with  13 punctuated by a highlight worthy follow up dunk. Freeman finished the half with 9.

Dayton led 38-23 at the half.
