In the first fight between Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker, Chisora scored a knockdown in the first 7 seconds.
In what was built as a “must win”, Chisora couldn’t ask for a better start. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t keep it up and even a strong 12th round couldn’t save Chisora (32-11-0) from a split decision loss (115-113, 113-115, 116-111).
“I 100% won the first fight, I was the more pressure fighter, I was making the fight happen – all he wanted to do was hold,” said Chisora.
It wasn’t Parker’s (29-2-0) holding that gave Chisora issues. Parker was able to up his work rate as Chisora tired throughout the fight. Simply put, Parker out-boxed him. “I feel like I’ll finish this fight within the distance, I’ve got a good feeling,” said Parker.
Parker has had a full training camp with trainer Andy Lee so the rematch could look very different. Will Parker be more strategically aggressive this time around especially if Chisora tires again?
Prediction:
There’s a good chance that the second fight won’t go the distance. If Chisora isn’t in shape, he’ll tire and Parker could finish his off before the final bell.
Chisora’s push forward style allows for his power shots to find a home. Can he hurt Parker like he did in the last fight? And if he does, will Parker be able to respond like he did in the first fight?
Parker’s only two losses have come at the hands of Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. He’s the younger more skilled fighter.
