Mason Loses Fifth Straight

George Mason came into their game with ODU hoping to break a four game losing streak.

Unfortunately that would not be the case as Mason lost to ODU 60-50.

The Patriots got off to a slow start on offense. They didn’t hit their first field goal of the game until there was 12:53 in the first half. During that stretch, Mason would also turn the ball over five times.

The defense struggled as well as ODU hit 4 of their first 8 shots as they raced out to a 13-4 lead.

But once the first shot went in, it kicked off a 10-0 run giving Mason’s first lead of the game.

As the half wore on both teams had issues on offense especially their leading scorers. Mason Josh Oduro shot 1-5 in the first 20 minutes while ODU’s C. J. Keyser was 1-6 from the floor.

Mason went into the locker room with a 26-25 lead.

The second half started the same way as the first with the Patriots having issues on offense. They hit just one out of their first seven shots as ODU pushed out to a 33-28 lead.

As Mason’s offense continued to try and find it’s way, ODU’s offense was starting to get in a groove.

Keyser’s three pointer with 8:10 left pushed the Monarchs’ lead to 50-37.

Mason would run off 8 straight to cut the lead to 5 with 2:07 left but that was as close as Mason would get.

Notes:

  • After struggling in the first half, ODU’s C. J. Keyser made 5 of 7 shots in the second half. He finished the night with 19 points.
  • The free throw line was anything but charitable for George Mason. The Patriots made only 10-19 free throws.
