Maryland Basketball: Vermont Preview

Maryland (2-0) will welcome Vermont to Xfinity after their exciting 71-64 win over George Washington.

In the win over the Colonials, Georgetown transfer Qudus Wahab had 18 points and 15 rebounds. Fatts Russell chipped in with 15 points including a three-pointer that pushed Maryland’s lead to six point with 44 seconds left in the game.

This will be the Terps third meeting with Vermont all time. In the two previous meetings, the Terps came away with a win with the last one coming in 2008.

Vermont won their season opener 71-57 over Northern Iowa. Guard Ben Shungu led the Catamounts with 19 points and 7 rebounds.

Three Things to Look for:

  • Turnovers: Maryland will need to take care of the ball. They are averaging 12.5 turnovers in the first two games of the season and Vermont turned over Northern Iowa 17 times.
  • Man in the Middle: Early in the season, Qudus Wahab has put up on big numbers against two teams that lack size. The Catamounts fall into the same category.
  • Reese Rebound: If you’re a freshman, you’re going to have some struggles. In game two of his young career, Julian Reese looked like the game was moving too fast for him at times. Give head coach Mark Turgeon credit, he kept giving Reese his minutes even though the game wasn’t a blowout.
