Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant face off this Saturday in Las Vegas.
Canelo has been a dominant since the GGG fights… if you want to argue that the Danny Jacobs win wasn’t dominant… that’s fine but that’s a discussion for another day.
The real question is Does Plant have a realistic chance to win?
If he wants to win he’ll need to outbox Canelo… something that has been difficult since Canelo was outclassed by Mayweather and the gift he received against Lara… a fight Canelo should’ve loss.
Plant will need to use the entire ring. Preoccupy Canelo with cutting off the ring. That will reduce his work rate. While doing the Plant will need to continuously pump the jab. He’ll need to double-up, sometimes triple-up on it. What he can’t do is just throw it for the sake of throwing it. It needs to be a hard jab or a jab that setting up something immediately behind it.
As the fight progresses Plant will need to stay off the ropes while trying to get Canelo’s back on the ropes. If he is so fortunate, he must make Canelo pay for being there which means he needs to try to hurt Canelo if he gets him in that position.
Last but not least, he can’t show Canelo any respect. This needs to be a “by any means necessary” type of approach. Sorta like Mayweather-Maidano 1. Don’t be dirty but show you’re not there to be another notch on his belt.
Prediction:
I think Plant can make this fight close and it might be a controversial decision but it’s going to be hard to beat Canelo on points and I don’t think Plant can win by stoppage so give me Canelo by decision.
