Zepeda-Vargas undercard fight blog.

arlos Jackson (17-1, 11 KOs) vs Jonathan Guzman (24-1, 23 KOs) – Jackson wins by split decision

The first couple of rounds gave the “we are feeling each other out” vibe… make that three rounds. Sorry folks but this has been a snoozer especially when it is the fight following Linger-Gonzalez.

The 4th saw a little more action which, of course, seems like a lot more action. Jackson probably got the better of the action in the round but not by much.

Jackson is started to heat up a bit in the 5th round. His hand speed is giving Guzman some issues.

Guzman found a comfortable distance the second half of the round. It’s shocking that it took him this long. Lets see if it carries in the last two rounds.

Jackson was able to land a couple of solid punches near the end of the round. It’s been simple… when Guzman keeps proper distance and pumps the jab, Jackson stops punching. Guzman hasn’t done that nearly enough.

Dakota Linger (12-5-2, 8 KOs) vs Mathew Gonzalez (12-0, 8 KOs) 58-56 Gonzalez, 57-57, 57-57 Majority Draw

Gonzalez completed dominated the first round. He threw in combinations with a lot of his power shots moving Linger around the ring.

The first half of the second round was competitive with Linger finding little pockets to land some punches. But Martinez would dominate the second half of the rounds landing combinations with Linger not returning punches.

Linger opened the third round landing power punches at will and it appeared that he stung Martinez in the process. Martinez would have his spots but the third round was definitely a Linger round.

Linger started the fourth round strong backing Martinez up against the ropes throughout. Even when Martinez managed to get off the ropes. Linger would put him right back there, in part, because Martinez was going straight back.

What an action packed fifth round. Martinez spent way too much time with his back against the ropes and it seemed like a Linger round, despite the fact, that Martinez did land some punches in the second half of the round.

What a 6th round! Both fighters landing big punches but Linger’s seemed to have a lot more steam on them.

Alejandro Martinez (3-1-1, 2 KOs) def Pablo Valdez (4-1, 4 KOs) – 57-57, 59-55, 59-55

Good first round by both men but Valdez landed the more meaningful punches.

In the second round, Valdez decided to stand in the middle of the ring and exchange punches with Martinez and he got stunned.

In the third round, Valdez caught Martinez and instead of throwing wild, looping punches, he stepped back and jabbed.

In the fourth round both fighters exchanged punches and it appeared that Martinez hurt Valdez. The two fighters got tangled up and Martinez appeared to be hurt but, after a few minutes, he would continue fighting.

Once the fight resumed both fighters went back to exchanging punches with Martinez getting the better of the action.

The fifth round saw much of the same with Valdez regaining a measure of effectiveness even though the round was very close.

The sixth round is here and Valdez looked like a spent fighter. He was reacting to every punch that Martinez landed. But midway through the round he picked up the pace landing flush shots to Martinez’ head.

Martinez pulls off the upset!!!

Jahi Tucker (5-0, 3 KOs) def Jorge Rodrigo Sosa (3-3, 3 KOs)2:18 of the 2nd round

Tucker stunned Sosa early in the first round with a right hand. Tucker continued to put pressure on Sosa throughout the round battering him all around the ring.

In the second round, Tucker continued to put pressure on Sosa and eventually he pinned him in the corner.

At the 2:18 mark, the ref stepped in and stopped the fight.

Ray Cuadrado (2-0, 1 KO) def Michael Land (1-4-1, 1 KO)  39-37, 39-37, 40-36

Cuadrado spent the first round landing combinations including a classic 1-2 that ended with a flush right hand to Land’s face.

After cruising the first two rounds, Land landed a punch that definitely got Cuadrado’s attention.

Cuadrado would close with a competitive win.

Kasir Goldston (4-0, 1 KO) def Marc Misiura (2-2, 1 KO) 40-35, 40-35, 40-35

Goldston clearly won the first round throwing combinations and landing the best punch of the round with a right to the body.

In the second round Goldston landed a solid right hook early on. Later in the round Goldston appeared to hurt Misiura after a series of combinations.

In the third round, after absorbing a series of punches Misiura intentionally hit Goldston with a low blow.

In the fourth round, Misiura was deducted a point for an intentional head butt. Clearly frustrated.
