Team USA didn’t get off to the same rip-roaring start, as they did against Puerto Rico but the inevitable was delayed.
The red, white, and blue moved to 2-0 at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship with a 133-74 win over the Dominican Republic.
Ronald Holland and Bryson Tucker each scored 22 points with Robert Dillingham chipping in 19.
The Americans would cap off the first quarter on an 11-1 run breaking a 21-21 tie. The momentum from the quarter was taken into the second quarter where Team USA outscored the Dominican Republic, 37-22.
The second half was much of the same as Team USA would cap off the game by outscoring the Dominican Republic 35-12 in the fourth quarter.
Team USA’s turnaround was spawned by a defense that would force 26 turnovers (18 in the first half) that led to 29 points. They would also score 62 fast break points.
If there were two dings in Team USA’s armor it was fouls (committed 28) and free throw shooting (17-31).
