Georgetown Basketball: Transfer Portal Update

With over 1,000 players in the NCAA Transfer Portal, college coaches are evaluating their losses along with potential gains.

Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown Hoyas haven’t had the same amount of roster debilitating transfers as other schools.

Per Verbal Commits, the only Hoya in the Transfer Portal is Qudus Wahab. Though Wahab is a big loss both literally and figuratively, it’s a loss that Ewing can fill-in for.

Incoming freshman, Ryan Mutombo (6’11”) will have the opportunity to earn minutes along with Timothy Ighoefe.

If Ewing wants to go into the portal looking for a big man, he could target the likes of Nysier Brooks (Miami) or Myles Johnson (Rutgers).

The Hoyas’s roster still has a few questions. Will any of the seniors decide to comeback? Out of all of the departing seniors/grad guys, Donald Carey seems to be the one who has the greatest chance of coming back.

Outside of Dante Harris, the Hoyas freshmen didn’t get much time on the court so there’s still a question of how they will perform with larger roles. Will Ewing help mitigate this by bringing in multiple seniors from the Transfer Portal?

Then there’s the much hyped incoming freshmen class. Will Ewing give them the same chance to learn as he gave James Akinjo and Mac McClung?

Despite all of the questions, Georgetown is sitting in a better place than other programs. Their roster is settled and they’ll have a full offseason to get on the same page.
