Maryland has three road wins against top 15 teams.
The streak started with a 70-64 win at Wisconsin.
Tonight the Terps will try to start a home streak when the Badgers come to College Park.
Head coach Mark Turgeon knows how hard it is will be to beat a Greg Gard coached team twice. “We expect them to show us different things defensively and offensively,” said Turgeon. “That’s what I like about Greg, he’s really good about doing that.”
Maryland is coming off a road win at Minnesota where their defense. The Terps held Minnesota to 49 points and 30.4% shooting from the field. The defense has gotten as the season has progressed. “Our rotations are getting better,” said Turgeon. “Our guys are recognizing things quicker and moving quicker.”
Rotations will be important against Wisconsin’s Swing Offense. In the first game, the Badgers had success offensively. They shot 43% from the field. Their undoing came at the free throw line where the Badgers went an uncharacteristic 8-15.
Offensively, the Terps are still a work in progress. Eric Ayala’s recent return from injury has given this team a boost. In the win at Minnesota, Ayala scored 21 points. In the first game against Wisconsin, Ayala led the Terps with 17 points (all in the second half).
In the first meeting, Maryland shot 50% from the floor including 64% in the second half. That’s even more impressive when you consider that Wisconsin is second in the conference in FG% defense.
