As crazy as this sounds, the VCU-GW tilt is a big one in the Atlantic 10.
The Colonials are 3-7 overall but 2-1 in the conference. They are tied for second with VCU (9-3 overall) and two others.
The match-up features two of the most exciting players in the Atlantic 10. George Washington’s James Bishop has been the most dangerous player in Jamion Christian’s offense. The LSU-transfer is second in the Atlantic 10 in both scoring and assists. Bishop and sophomore, Jamison Battle, combine for 38.1 points per game. That’s the top tandem in the conference.
VCU’s Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland has been the go-to guy for the Rams. In his last outing, Hyland scored 24 points in an 83-68 loss to Rhode Island. The loss snapped a seven game winning streak.
Keys:
- Turnovers – VCU’s defense has resembled more of the “Havoc” style that the school has been known for in previous years. Can Bishop play at a fast pace and protect the ball at the same time?
- Battle-Tested – Jamison Battle hasn’t shot the three-point show this season as much as last but in his last time out, he went 6-13 from long distance. As George Washington’s roster has absorbed in-season changes, Battle’s three point shooting will, once again, become important.
- Rebounding – Both teams are in the negative when it comes to the rebounding margin. Second shots and long rebounds leading to run-outs could be the difference in the game. The team that can control the boards, could control the pace and shot selection.
