Maryland Flies Past Saint Peter’s

The Terps came into the first leg of their back-to-back with the intent of getting their important players off their feet early.

They did just that in their 90-57 win over Saint Peter’s. Four Terps scored in double-figures.

Sophomore Hakim Hart got his first start of the season and he didn’t disappoint.Hart would set a career-high with 33 points. Hart was 11-13 from the field including, 5-7 from the three point line. “The reason he started was because Aaron hurt his elbow,” said head coach Mark Turgeon.

Early on, Hart hit back-to-back three pointers, giving Maryland a 12-2 lead. By halftime, he had already set a career-high with 13 points.

Eleven Terps saw time in the first half as they raced out to a 15 point lead. The lead would get as large as 22 in the first half.

Saint Peter’s had trouble shooting in the first 20 minutes. The Peacocks seemed hurried and uncomfortable against the Terps man to man defense. Saint Peters would finish the first half shooting 30% from the floor.

The Peacocks would open the second half with a 7-2 run. After Jairus Hamilton made two free throws, Saint Peter’s Daryll Banks III would convert a four point play and that was followed by a three pointer by Matthew Lee.

With the lead down to 14, Maryland would respond with an 8-2 run. During that stretch, Hamilton would hit two three-pointers with a Hart jump shot sandwiched in between. That would push the Terps lead to 20.

Maryland would eventually push the lead to 36.

Saint Peter’s wouldn’t get closer than 15 points for the rest of the game.
