To the true boxing fan, cards can be tricky especially pay-per-view card. It’s more than just the main event. If you’re investing five hours into a pay-per-view, and $74.95, it’s about the product as a whole.
Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) have pulled off a card that gives the consumer their money’s worth. This is hard during normal times, nevertheless, during a time where boxing promoters can’t depend on a live gate.
The Charlo brothers, Jermell (33-1) and Jermall (30-0), are the headliners. PBC did a great job finding opponents for the brothers. Jermell will face off Jeison Rosario (20-1-1). Last time we saw Rosario, not only was he upsetting Julian Williams, he was out and out dominating him. The 4th round TKO victory was the casual fan’s introduction to Rosario.
Jermall faces an opponent who has been in with the best of the best. Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-2) has fought top notch competition. Derevyanchenko’s only two losses came by split decision to Danny Jacobs and an action fight to Gennady Golovkin. The unanimous decision loss was razor close 114-113, 115-112, 115-112.
The Charlo bouts aren’t the only title fights on the card which is part of the appeal.
- Brandon Figueroa (20-0-1) vs. Damien Vasquez (15-1-1), 12 rounds, for Figueroa’s WBA “regular” junior featherweight title
Figueroa’s only “blemish” is a draw in his last outing. There has to be concern in the Figuero camp after he took his share of punishment against Julio Ceja. It’s hard to figure out what strategy Figuero will be implementing on Saturday. “I feel like the action fighting has been my style and game plan since day one,” said Figueroa (20-0-1, 15 KOs). “But I obviously believe I’d also have an advantage boxing him at distance. So he can say whatever he wants, I don’t think he’s going to want to go toe-to-toe with me. I can guarantee you he’ll regret that. To avoid taking the beating he took in his last outing, Figueroa might want to do a little more boxing. - John Riel Casimero (29-4-9) vs. Duke Micah (24-0-0), 12 rounds, for Casimero’s WBO bantamweight title
Micah will face his stiffest test to stay undefeated. Casimero has won his last five fight by KO/TKO.
Other title fights:
Mario Barrios vs. Ryan Karl, 12 rounds, for Barrios’ WBA “regular” junior welterweight title
Luis Nery vs. Aaron Alameda, 12 rounds, for vacant WBC junior featherweight title
