Atlantic 10 Conference Creates Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Atlantic 10 announced that the conference has created a commission to address racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The commission will focus on collective resources and expertise within the A-10 to facilitate effective, meaningful discussion and sustainable improvement in equality and social justice.

Duquesne University President Kenneth Gormley, J.D. and La Salle Athletic Director Brian Baptiste are co-chairing the commission. Each conference member have three representatives.

George Mason Representatives

Nena Rogers
• Fourth year as Senior Associate Athletic Director of Academic Services and
her 22nd year at Mason overall.
• Serves as the administrator for George Mason’s SAAC.

Duane Simpkins
• Sixth season at George Mason, and is currently the Associate Head Coach.
• Organized Connecting for Change to bring transformation to the social
injustices, systematic racism and voter suppression.

George Washington Representatives

Chris Monroe
• GW’s current Associate Director of Development.
• A former men’s basketball student-athlete who finished in 2003 with a Sociology
degree; is in the GW Athletics Hall of Fame, and is an A-10 Basketball Legend.

Torrie Browning
• Named head coach of GW’s women’s tennis program in July 2016.
• A former Wichita State women’s tennis student-athlete, she led the Colonials
to a top 10 ITA final regional ranking for the first time in program history.

Caroline Laguerre-Brown, J.D.
• Is the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement.
• Oversees the Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, the Office of Disability
Support Services, the Multicultural Student Services Center and the Title IX Office.

VCU Representatives

Takeya McLaurin
• Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration.
• Oversees various administrative operations to include human resources,
policy, records, and game contract management.

CiCi Fox
• Is a current women’s soccer senior student-athlete double majoring in
Homeland Security and Psychology.
• Has played in 36 games over the past two years for the Rams as a forward.

Corey Douglas, Jr.
• Current men’s basketball redshirt senior majoring in Communications and
Strategic Advertising.
• An athletic post player, he’s played in 59 games in two years for VCU
