Georgetown Still Hanging on to Tournament Hopes

Hoyas Take the Fight to Butler

There’s no quit in the Hoyas. The culture Georgetown head coach, Patrick Ewing is building is starting to take shape.

Georgetown went to Butler without Mac McClung (day-to-day/foot) and Omer Yurtseven (day-to-day/ankle) and beat the 19th ranked Bulldogs 73-66.

Because of their thin roster, Georgetown played depended on six player with three of them, Jahvon Blair, Terrell Allen, and Jagan Mosely playing all 40 minutes. Jamorko Pickett played 37 minutes. “No matter what the adversity is, you scratch, you claw, and be able to come away with a win,” said Ewing.

Allen led the Hoyas with 22 points. Blair chipped in with 16. Allen’s offensive output is somewhat shocking especially from the three-point line where he finished 4-4. Despite being in foul trouble, Qudus Wahab scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Fellow freshman, Timothy Ighoefe played a career high 12 minutes.

Georgetown led over 30 minutes of the game. Even when the Hoyas fell behind, it was never by more than 3 points.

But the overriding story is how this team has performed since four players transferred from the program. Despite being shorthanded, Georgetown (15-7, 5-7) continue to keep their NCAA tournament hope alive.

The Hoyas are tied for 7th in the Big East only 1.5 games behind Providence. The Friars come to Capital One on Wednesday.
