Mickelson isn’t looking for a hand out
Phil Mickelson announced that he won’t accept a special exemption to play the U.S. Open, if offered. Mickelson has made it clear that he’s either going to qualify or he won’t play.
On one hand that’s an admirable stance but on the other it wouldn’t be optimal for the entertainment side of golf. Mickelson has always been, and will always be one of the most fan friendly players on the tour. He’s loved by the galleries especially at the U.S. Open.
But golf is the ultimate “earn it” sport and Mickelson’s decision falls in line with what golf represents. For that, Mickelson deserves the ultimate golf clap.
Koepka won’t do mid-round TV Interviews
Slow play has been a big topic in golf for a while. Well, you won’t have Brooks Koepka to blame for it. Koepka announced that he won’t agree to mid-round interviews.
His announcement came on the heels of Graeme McDowell receiving a warning for slow play after doing a mid-round interview in Saudi Arabia. “I won’t do it. I’m not interested in talking about what just happened or the difficulty of the holes ahead,” said Koepka.
