Georgetown-Seton Hall Preview

Georgetown (13-9, 3-6) goes into the Seton Hall game with some good vibes after coming back from 17 down to defeat St. John’s.

Once again, the Hoyas will need to find a way to win without Mac McClung. Georgetown head coach, Patrick Ewing, confirmed today that McClung will miss the game against first place Seton Hall (16-5, 8-1). McClung is listed as day-to-day. “He (McClung) got injured (foot) the day before (St. John’s game),” said Ewing.

The first time these two teams met, Seton Hall won 78-62. The Pirates had four players score in double-digits led by Romaro Gill’s 17 points. Ewing has been impressed by Gill’s development. “Blocking shots. He’s Rim protecting,” said Ewing. “They hit him on the roll, he’s able to finish.”

With McClung out, the Hoyas are looking for another game where several players contribute. That starts with the ball movement that was so effective against St. John’s. “We had good shots throughout the whole game. First half we weren’t making them. The second half we were able to make them.”

Jahvon Blair and Jagan Mosely played all 40 minutes against the Red Storm. Both produced big games on the offensive end with Blair leading Georgetown with 23 points. Mosely chipped in with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. At several points this season, Ewing has said that Mosely is the MVP of this team. “It’s great praise coming from a guy like (coach) Ewing,” said Mosely “When you hear MVP you usually think of the guy who scores the most points.”

With a thin bench, Georgetown has shown more zone defense. Something that isn’t Ewing’s favorite but he recognizes the need to use it. “I’m still not a zone guy but there’s going times we have to play it,” said Ewing.

Seton Hall had it’s 10 game winning streak snapped the last time out. The loss to Xavier was their first conference loss of the season. In the loss, starting guard Quincy McKnight was injured. He’s officially listed as day-to-day.
