UNC Enters Important Stretch

The Tar Heels still have an eye on making the tournament

If North Carolina (10-10, 3-6) wants to dig their way out of the hole they’re in, the next three games are an important stretch. None of the other “stretches” are important if the Tar Heels don’t go, at least, 2-1 against Boston College, Florida State and Duke.

In fact, the Duke game will have a different feel. The Tar Heels can’t look at it as a rivalry game. Every game is a “save our season” game. But, first things first, Boston College (10-11, 4-6) comes to town. A win over the Eagles could move the Tar Heels as high as 10th in the ACC. But a start is a start.

Keys:

Remember Who You Are

North Carolina will need to go inside early and often. Garrison Brooks has had a double-double in seven of the last eight games. Even when he isn’t scoring, the offense runs better when there’s an inside touch early in the possession.

Armando Bacot, has had your typical freshman season. There’s been plenty of up and downs even within the same game. Against North Carolina State, Bacot shot 2-10 from the field but his 7-11 performance from the free throw line was just as important.

Brandon Robinson Must Stay Healthy

Robinson has been North Carolina’s perimeter play not named Cole Anthony. The problem with Robinson has been his health. Even in the North Carolina State game, Robinson got dinged up. He has eight straight double-digit scoring games but his three-point shooting is the key. Even if Robinson gets off to a slow start, he will still have to shoot it if the Tar Heels want to win.

Don’t Give Boston College Hope

The Eagles are 2-6 in their last eight. Boston College is last in the conference in shooting percentage, offensive rebounding, and defensive rebounding.
