George Washington came into last night’s game a win away from being .500 in the tough Atlantic 10. They accomplished that, albeit, in four overtimes 107-104. “What a great victory for our team, said George Washington head coach Jamion Christian. I just loved our battle”. And battle they did.
Maceo Jack led the Colonials with a career-high 35 points. “Teammates were great finding me,” said Jack. Jamison Battle had 25 points and freshman Chase Paar, chipped in with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
The Colonials lost a nine point first half lead eventually leading by two points, 42-40, at halftime.
George Washington had a chance to win at the end of the regulation. Battle had a good look at a three pointer at the buzzer that bounced off the rim.
In the second overtime, Davidson looked like they were ready to take over the game when they took a six point lead. It was their largest lead of the game. In what could’ve been the most important move of the game, Christian brought in Arnaldo Toro for the first time all night. The senior big man helped the Colonials fight back and close the second overtime on an 8-2 run.
In 13 minutes, Toro would score 11 points and grab rebound including going 7-10 from the free throw line. “I felt like he was a guy who was going to really respond through the course of that game,” said Christian.
In the fourth overtime, George Washington finally got control hitting back to back three pointers. First it was Jameer Nelson Jr’s three pointer that would put the Colonials up 100-98. After a stop on the defensive end, Battle would hit another three-pointer giving the Colonials a five point lead.
