Hoyas Dominate American; George Washington Defeats Longwood
Georgetown welcomed American University to Capital One and cruised to an 80-60 win.
Omer Yurtseven would lead Georgetown with 17 points and eight rebounds. Terrell Allen and Jahvon Blair scored 14 points a piece. Sa’eed Nelson would lead the Eagles with 17 points.
Hoya guard, Mac McClung left the game late in the first half with an injury after being hit in the face. When asked about the severity of the injury, head coach Patrick Ewing said, “We’re not sure, he went to the doctor”.
Despite being undersized, American was game early on, taking a 21-20 lead. Stacy Beckton Jr’s three pointer gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game, 28-24. But Georgetown would respond closing the half on a 17-4 run to lead 41-32.
Georgetown would dominate the second half scoring 11 of the first 15 points. The lead would get as high as 23 points.
George Washington 78 Longwood 65
George Washington took one heck of a punch at the beginning of their content with Longwood and responded in a way that would make any coach proud.
Early on, the Colonials found themselves down 12 behind some scorching hot shooting by the Lancers. George Washington would respond with a 32-13 run in the first half. During that run, Jameer Nelson Jr. and Maceo Jack would score eight points a piece.
The Colonials would eventually push the lead to 11 until finally settling on a 43-38 halftime lead.
Every run Longwood made in the second half, George Washington had an answer for. The Lancers cut it to two early in the second half and the Colonials responded with a 10-1 run, pushing the league back up to 12. Longwood would never get closer than 9 points.
Maceo Jack led the Colonials in scoring with 20 points.
