Georgetown Basketball: Penn State Preview

Georgetown faces their first opponent from a major conference when the Hoyas hosts Penn State in the Gavitt Games.

The Hoyas are coming off two uninspiring wins over Mount St Mary’s and Central Arkansas. The first two games have shown that Georgetown still has a way to go on defense.

The Mount led Georgetown by as much as 19 points before a furious comeback enabled the Hoyas from suffering the upset. Mount St Mary’s shot 46.3% from the floor. Central Arkansas only shot 38% but was able to make 12 three-pointers on their way to scoring 78 points.

Penn State comes to Capital One Arena with four players averaging in double-digits. Lamar Stevens leads the Nittany Lions is scoring at 15 points and 6 rebounds a game.

Sophomores Myreon Jones and Myles Dread average 12 points each. Dread attended Gonzaga HS (Washington, DC) and was 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year.

Georgetown senior, Omer Yurtseven has been a double-doulbe machine since stepping foot on campus. Yurtseven was name to the Big East Honor roll for his performance against Mount St Mary’s and Central Arkansas. “[Omer Yurtseven] is a load. What I like is that – so much of post play now and with the game going to all bigs shooting 3’s and that kind of stuff – it’s refreshing to see someone that knows who he is and what they want him to be. The other thing is, you can tell that a Hall of Famer is coaching him,” said Central Arkansas Head Coach Russ Pennell.
