Capital City Go-Go’s Continue Local Feel

The Capital City Go-Go’s introduced Jarell Christian as their coach and Pops Mensah-Bonsu as their GM.

This continues the local flavor Ted Leonsis is giving his G-League team. The term “Go-Go” represents a musical genre home to the Washington DC area.

Christian grew up in the New Kent, Virginia area and played for Emory & Henry College which is also located in the state.

Prior to accepting the job with the Go-Go’s, Christian was as assistant coach on the Oklahoma City Blue. The Blue is the G-League team for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mensah-Bonsu played at George Washington University and was one of the more popular players during his stay in Foggy Bottom. He was a fan favorite for his hustle and averaged in double-digits all four years. It’s even more impressive when you consider Mensah-Bonsu never averaged over 26 minutes a game.

As a pro, he was mainly a journeyman. He played six seasons in the NBA and spent it with five different teams. His pro career ended after receiving a two year ban in Greece for doping.

After his retirement, he continued to work in basketball including being a scout for the San Antonio Spurs.
