Who will win the 2017-18 Rookie of the Year?
GM Survey: 62% Lonzo Ball (L.A. Lakers)
Making The Cut: Dennis Smith Jr. (Dallas Mavericks)
Hate to say that part of my pick had to do with anticipated backlash towards Lonzo Ball because of his Dad but here we are. Dennis Smith Jr. will have every opportunity to get major minutes in his rookie season. Mavericks playing Dirk Nowitzki at center will help open up lanes for a guy who will be the third option at best. With defenses not necessarily game planning for Smith Jr., big numbers as a secondary option is there for the taking.
Which rookie will be the best player in five years?
GM Survey: 24% Josh Jackson (Phoenix Suns)
Making The Cut: Lonzo Ball (L.A. Lakers)
Ball will have the benefit of the Lakers’ being an attractive destination for free agents. That will give him more opportunity to reach his potential. There are things he will have to improve on like his shooting but that will come with time if he keeps his eyes on the prize. In five years, with the combination of free agents and player development, the Lakers will be right back near the top of the West. That will enhance Ball’s play and how we view him.
Which rookie was the biggest steal at where he was selected in the Draft?
GM Survey: 37% Dennis Smith Jr. (Dallas Mavericks)
Making The Cut: Malik Monk (Charlotte Hornets)
Monk was chosen 11th in the draft but he brings something all teams in the NBA need, shooting. He can develop into an NBA knockdown shooter. He will get chances if Kemba Walker is willing to be a little more “kick” on his drives to the basket.
Who is the best international player in the NBA?
GM Survey 69% Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)
Making The Cut: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)
No brainer. The Greek Freak is developing into being one of the best players in the NBA, International or Domestic. His potential is off the charts and, as long as the Bucks, build the team around him (correctly), skies the limit.
Who is the best international player NOT in the NBA?
GM Survey: 69% Luka Doncic
