UConn-Georgetown Instant Reaction

Georgetown 72 UConn 69

First Half

After both teams got off the slow starts, the scoring picked up in the first half rather quickly. UConn hit their first 2 three pointers and the Hoyas were able to get buckets from all over the court.

UConn started pulling away late in the first half as they pushed to a 33-27 lead. They were led by hot 3-point shooting as they were 5-10 in the half as Vance Jackson was a deadly 3-4 from long range. Jackson’s 11 led the team as the Huskies shot 40% overall.

Georgetown hung tough but struggled in the half from beyond the arc (2-11) but made up for it with 12 points in the paint. Marcus Derrickson led the Hoyas with 8.

Second Half

UConn got out hot in the second half stretching the lead to 14 points. The game seemed to turn during a sequence when Jaga Mosely hit a three, made a steal, and then threw an alley-oop to Pryor. That cut the UConn lead to 9. The Hoyas continued on their run as LJ Peak started taking over. Peak ended with 21 on 7-15 shooting.

UConn’s 3-point shooting lessened in the second half. After hitting 6-12 in the first half, they were only 2-6 in the second half. Georgetown was the exact opposite. The Hoyas were 2-11 in the first half but caught fire in the second half as they were 6-12 beyond the arc.

The Hoyas free throw shooting also keyed the comeback as they were 11-12 from the line in the second half after being 5-8 in the first. The Hoyas also shot 48.3% overall from the floor in the second half.
