Bucknell (2-0, 10-5) and Boston University (2-0, 7-7) have started off the Patriot lead with 2-0 starts. The Bison quick start came at the expense of the military academies.
The Bison defeated a game Navy (0-2, 5-9) on the road and a tough Army (0-2, 6-8) who also gave Bucknell some heartburn. The Naval Academy had Bucknell down 13 in the second half before Zach Thomas broke a 53-53 tie with 1:44 left. Against Army, Nana Foulland scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and the Bison shot 51% in the victory.
No team in the conference was happier to see conference play than Boston University. The Terriers had lost 6 of their last 7 heading into the Holy Cross (1-1, 7-8) game. BU had two players register double doubles and got timely 3 pointers from Cedric Hankerson in their 61-55 win over the Crusaders. This led to their big early season match up with Lehigh (1-1, 7-6).
Facing Tim Kempton and the powerful Mountain Hawks would bring out the best in the Terriers. BU jumped out to a 9-point halftime lead and cruised to a 75-61 victory. In typical Terrier fashion, it was a team effort. Four players scored in double digits led by Justin Alston’s 14.
