Navy (3-4) came into the UMBC game have lost 4 out of their first 5, needing a win and that’s what they did. They followed up the 78-66 win over the Retrievers with a 2 point win over Penn. The Bison from Bucknell (5-2) followed up their upset of Vanderbilt with two more victories over Norfolk State (84-58) and Northern Colorado (75-63).
Senior Crusader, Malachi Alexander, had two solid performances as Holy Cross (2-4) split the two contests in the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. Alexander had 11 points, 6 rebounds against South Carolina State and 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in their 80-77 loss to Monmouth. The loss was especially painful as the Crusaders lost a 5 point lead in the final 18 seconds.
Colgate (1-4) and American (0-5) are still looking to get on track. The Raiders lost a hard fought game to Penn State and then an overtime loss to Columbia. Jordan Swopshire had 26 and 9 in the Columbia game. As for the Eagles, they fell to Wagner and St. Francis (PA). Despite the losses the freshman continue to shine. Sa’eed Nelson continues to shine. He played 40 minutes and 24 points in both games. Not to be outdone, fellow freshman Mark Gasperini had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Boston University (4-2), Army (2-4), Lehigh (2-3) and Loyola (MD) (2-4) all split their games while Lafayette (2-3) lost both.
