Washington Football Team: Takeaways from Giants game

It’s a Sunday without the Washington Football Team as they come off Thursday night’s last second 30-29 win against the New York Giants.

Washington can use the extra days as they prepare for their first road game at Buffalo.

The extra days will also help Scott Turner to continue to build the offense for Tyler Heinicke. The ODU product was solid all night until his late interception almost cost Washington the game. With that being said, what is encouraging is Heinicke quickly put it past him and led Washington on a late game winning drive. He finished the night completing 34-46 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and the aforementioned interception.

The jury is still out not because of production but because of Turner’s play calling. The running game seems like it’s more of a secondary thought. Antonio Gibson is still adjusting to the running back position but it’s hard to complain about his production through two games. On the season, Gibson has 33 carries for 159 yards.

After two weeks, I think it’s easy to say that this isn’t going to be a historically great defense like many thought before the season started. Daniel Jones threw for 249 yards and ran for another 95. Plus he had a long touchdown called back because of a holding call. Nothing against Jones because he is mobile but he’s not Lamar Jackson. If it was hard to contain Jones what happens when the defense have to face a true dual-threat quarterback in Josh Allen?

The defense gave up a long drive to start the game. They also allowed the Giants to score on their first four possessions of the second half. The defense is hardly stoking memories of the 85 Bears.
