Spotlight: Jemel Herring

A look at Jemel Herring’s upcoming bout with Shakur Stevenson on October 23rd in Atlanta.

Like Shakur Stevenson, Jemel Herring faces the biggest fight of his career. The US Marine veteran was on our 2012 Olympic team. His opponent, Stevenson, was on the 2016 Olympic team.

That’s where the similarities end.

Herring is coming off a win over Carl Frampton. Herring sent Frampton into retirement. Herring hasn’t loss since 2017. He’s on a 7 fight winning streak.

The key for Herring will be the left hand. It was an incredible weapon against Frampton. If Herring uses his long jab to get inside, the short left uppercut or hook to hurt Stevenson. It’s Herring’s best chance to win the fight.

It’s going to be hard for him to win a technical fight because of Stevenson’s speed and football could allow him to get inside and out before Herring can get off an effective punch.

But if Herring can get Stevenson to fight inside in pockets, he can certainly with the fight.
