Maryland Basketball: Turgeon Extension

A month ago, Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon took a team that was picked to finished 12th to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The University of Maryland rewarded him with a contract extension through 2025-2026.

“We believe in Coach Turgeon and are excited about what the future holds for Maryland basketball,” said University of Maryland Director of Athletics Damon Evans.

Turgeon’s name came up when the University of Texas and Oklahoma University jobs became open. The contract extension will provide security for Turgeon on the recruiting trail. “Coach is fully committed to Maryland and we are in agreement of the expectations for our program as we move forward. Coach and the staff have already been at work recruiting and building on our recent success,” said Evans.

Maryland has most of it’s roster coming back along with the additions of two major transfers in need areas. Fatts Russell (Rhode Island) will provide stability at the point guard position while Qudus Wahab (Georgetown) will give Maryland some badly needed paint presence.
