Benavidez loses his title on the scale

David Benavidez came into his fight with Alexis Angulo without his coveted title. Benavidez came into the fight three pounds overweight hence he was stripped of his belt.

He would end his night with a 10th round TKO victory over Angulo.

“I’m so disappointed and embarrassed at myself. Everything everybody said about me is true. I should be a professional and come in at weight. I have to go back to the drawing board,” Benavidez said.

Rolando Romero hands Jackson Marinez his first loss

Romero-Marinez  was your classic puncher vs boxer fight. Much to most people’s surprise, Romero (12-0) was given a unanimous decision capturing the WBA interim lightweight championship.

Most of the night, Marinez kept Romero at distance with his jab and he certainly landed the cleaner puncher but there were some rounds that could’ve gone either way.

Romero looked like a one-trick pony all night. He didn’t land a fight-changing punch and most punches didn’t land clean.

The most shocking thing was there were three veteran judges who found the fight for Romero.

Official Scorecards: Romero 115-113, 116-112, 118-110

Making the Cut Scorecard: Marinez 117-111

Frampton Stops Traynor

Carl Frampton stayed on the winning track with an unimpressive 7th TKO win over Darren Traynor. It was an important win for Frampton as he pursues a match-up with American Jamel Herring for the WBO junior lightweight championship.
