Through the Uprights: Week 5 College Football/Thursday Night Football

This column was 2-1 last week. The Weekday Edition of our picks boasts a 5-6 record for the season.

NFL Pick (Thursday Night):

Philadelphia (+4.5) at Green Bay Packers (over/under 46)

Green Bay is at home on a short week so they catch my eye. The offense has been average but the defense has been better than advertised.

Fans have to feel like the Eagles will get started and get started soon. This is as close of a “must win” game as you can have in Week 4. Philadelphia can’t get 3 or 4 games behind the Cowboys.

It’s setting up for a Philadelphia upset or, at the very least, they’ll be close.

Pick: Philadelphia +4.5

College Football Picks (Friday night):

Penn State (-6.5) at Maryland (over/under 61.5)

Both teams are coming off bye weeks. Penn State’s close win over Pitt looks much better after the Panthers come off upsetting UCF.

Last time we saw Maryland, they were finding a way to get inside the Temple 5 only to not score. They were outplayed the entire afternoon yet they put themselves in a position to win on the road.

Prediction: Penn State -6.5

Arizona State (+5.5) at Cal (over/under 40)

Very seldom do you see a college game with a low over/under.

Neither team have powerful offenses but 40 is a number that is tempting enough to take.

Prediction: Over 40
