DMV Hoopin’: Locals Square Off

College Basketball is ready to come off their version of a Christmas Break. There are two games in the DC area that will see locals schools square off. Howard travels to Georgetown and American will make their way to Foggy Bottom.

Howard (6-7) at Georgetown (9-3)

Howard continues it’s tour of playing local teams. The Bison have played American (win) and George Washington (loss). The Bison are coming in on a four game losing streak. RJ Cole, Charles Williams, and Chad Lott lead the Bison is almost every major statistical category.

The Hoyas have been a mixed bag. After losing to SMU in overtime at home, Georgetown responded with a tough win over Arkansas Little-Rock. The game served as a coming out party for two of Ewing’s prized freshmen. Mac McClung poured in 38 and James Akinjo had 25 points, 7 assists.

American (6-4) at George Washington (3-9)

American has clinched a winning record in their non-conference record. The Eagles are led by junior point guard Sa’eed Nelson. The preseason Patriot League Player of the Year is averaging 18.8 ppg and 5.1 apg. Mark Gasperini’s health will be a major concern for the Eagles. Gasperini has missed the last two games.

George Washington is coming off a road defeat to Harvard. The last time out in Foggy Bottom, the Colonials defeated Howard. DJ Williams and Terry Nolan Jr. lead the Colonials who will have to deal with the loss of Arnaldo Toro for the entire season.

George Mason (6-6) at Kansas State (9-2)

The Patriots are winners of three of their last four games.

Radford (7-5) at Maryland (9-3)

The Terps will try to rebound off a four point home loss to Seton Hall.

Rider (5-6) at VCU (8-4) (Sunday)

The Rams have split their last four with tough losses against Virginia and Charleston and wins at Texas and home to Wichita State.
