International Champions Cup: Real Madrid Dominates Juventus

Real Madrid faced Juventus of an enthusiastic crowd at Fed Ex Field in Landover, MD. It was fitting to have these two heavy hitters in the Washington DC since this has become the epicenter of champions in the United States.

Juventus opened the scoring in the 13th minute, as a Real Madrid’s Daniel Carvajal scored in his own net giving the Italian soccer club an early 1-0 lead. For the next few minutes, Juventus controlled the real estate but Real Madrid eventually started to get warmed up.

In the 27th minute, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale had a good chance from the left side of the box but failed to cash in. Shortly after that Isco had a similar chance that was just off. But, the pressure eventually paid off when Bale scored a spectacular goal (39th minute) from the top of the penalty box. The pressure stayed on and Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon was within a whisker of making it 2-1 and his shot just sailed wide.

The half ended with the teams tied at 1 but Real Madrid controlled the ball more (60%), had more shots (6-1) and won more duels (24-14).

Real Madrid came out of the locker room with the goal on continuing the pressure and they did just that. It would pay off early as Marco Asensio scored (47th minute) off a beautiful cross from Vinicius Junior. In the 56th minute, Asensio scored again to put Real Madrid up 3-1 sealing the game.
