Capitol Dome Report: Hoyas Pass First Road Test

So much has been made over Georgetown’s (4-0) scheduled but in their first road test they passed with flying colors in a 82-76 victory in Richmond. Despite the Spiders record (1-5), they returned contributors Nick Sherod and De’Monte Buckingham.

The Hoyas had five players score in double figures in a balanced effort. Patrick Ewing feels like this will help the team down the road.

“I think a game like this is only going to help us get ready for what’s to come,” Ewing added.

Georgetown returns home for the next 8 games and won’t play a road game again until they go to Marquette on December 30th.

Other teams in the area posted mixed results this weekend. The Terps (5-1) fell to St. Bonaventure 63-61, despite the Bonnies not having their top two players. They followed up the loss with a blowout win over New Mexico.

George Mason (3-3) dropped 2 contests in Cancun while George Washington (2-4) is riding a three game losing streak.

In Maui, VCU (3-3) went 1-2 against very stiff competition. The Rams opened with a loss to Marquette but responded with a 14 point win against Cal. In the fifth place game against Michigan, the Rams and Wolverines went back and forth before Michigan was able to eek out a 68-60 win.

American University scored a 69-64 victory in their home opener against VMI. The Eagles were led by sophomore Sa’eed Nelson and Larry Motuzis. In a nip and tuck affair, Nelson scored 21 points while Motuzis scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
