Patriot League Notebook: Bucknell Closing In

With four games left, Bucknell is protecting a two game lead over Boston U and Navy. The Bison play their last two road games (at Loyola, at Boston U) before finishing the season at home against Lafayette and Navy. This will give them the opportunity to all but wrap up the Patriot League regular season title.

The race for second very important in the Patriot League because the home team in the conference tournament is determined by where you finished in the regular season. Navy and Boston U split their regular season match up with each winning on the other’s floor.

Both teams still have Bucknell on their schedule. Navy will have to travel to Bucknell while Boston U will get the host the Bison. The Midshipmen and Terriers will need to win out to have any chance at winning the Patriot League and to give them a chance to finish ahead of the other.

It all starts tonight as Navy travels to Lehigh while Boston U goes to Colgate. In their first match up, the Midshipmen defeated Lehigh 75-72 at home. Sophomore had a huge game that night scoring a career high 18 points. Navy erased an 11-point second half deficit.

Boston University lost to the Raiders in their first match up. Will Rayman and Sean O’Brien scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, the first go around. Eric Fanning’s 12 points led the Terriers. As a team, BU only shot 35.1%.

At bottom of the conference, American, Army and Lafayette sit at 3-11. All three are guaranteed to play on the first night of the tournament but whoever finishes eighth out of the group, will host a game. American and Army might have the tallest task as three of their last four games are on the road. Lafayette has two road games along with two home games.

American and Lafayette face each other tonight in Easton. That is the last match up between the three.
